One of the biggest limitations of early smart home setups was app fragmentation. Buying a smart plug from one brand and a light bulb from another often meant downloading two separate apps, setting up two user accounts, and struggling to link them together.
Thanks to the Matter standard, those days are officially over. You can now take non-Tuya, Matter-certified hardware—such as a TP-Link Tapo Smart Socket or a Govee RGBWW Smart Bulb—and connect them directly into the Smart Life App.
Below is a complete, step-by-step guide on how to integrate any Matter device with Smart Life, control them locally, and build powerful cross-brand automations.

Step-by-Step Pairing Guide
Before adding your Matter hardware, ensure you have the following ready:
2.4 GHz Wi-Fi Network: Your smartphone must be connected to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi band with Bluetooth enabled.
Active Matter Controller/Gateway: A running Matter controller on your local network (e.g., Tuya/Smart Life Matter Gateway, Amazon Echo, Apple HomePod/Apple TV, or Google Nest Hub).
Matter Setup QR Code: The official Matter QR code or 11-digit setup PIN printed on the device, packaging, or manual.
Plug in or power on your Matter device. If it is brand new, it will automatically enter pairing mode (indicated by a flashing LED indicator or pulsing light). If previously set up, perform a factory reset according to the manufacturer’s manual.
Launch the Smart Life App on your smartphone, tap the + icon in the top-right corner of the screen, and select Add Device.
Tap the QR Code Scanner icon at the top of the screen. Align your phone camera with the official Matter setup QR code located on your device or product manual. (Alternatively, choose ‚Matter‘ from the category list and manually enter the 11-digit pairing code).
Smart Life will detect the Matter payload, establish a local Bluetooth connection, and provision the device onto your local Wi-Fi network.
Once added successfully, rename your device (e.g., „Tapo Matter Plug“ or „Govee RGB Light“) and assign it to a room. Tap Done.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Do I need the manufacturer's original app to set this up?
No. As long as the device is Matter-certified and in pairing mode, you can connect it directly to the Smart Life App using its Matter setup code.
Why won't my Matter QR code scan?
Ensure your phone is connected to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network and Bluetooth is switched ON. If the camera scanner fails, choose „Enter Code Manually“ in Smart Life and type the 11-digit PIN accompanying the QR code.
